Denis ROONEY CBE – Director
Denis is a senior business leader with over 40 years experience in public sector and private sector organisations. Denis is currently Chairman of the International Fund for Ireland (IFI).
He qualified as a chartered quantity surveyor and set up the surveying practice DRA in 1984. He has held a number of key appointments such as Chief Executive of White Young Green Ireland, Chairman of Enterprise Equity Ireland and Northern Ireland and Chairman of the Institute of Directors (IOD) Northern Ireland.
He has been active in the construction, the general business and community sectors, and has also served as an external examiner with the University of Ulster, School of the Built Environment and is a past Chairman of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
He has a particular interest in the Northern Ireland economy and initiated and chaired a series of meetings between The Business Alliance, representing the main business organisations and the main Political Parties during this period. This grouping produced an Economic Agenda document setting out the business view on economic priorities for Northern Ireland.
Denis has been a very active member of the Northern Ireland Economic Development Forum since2000 and whilst with the EDF he worked on various sub groups, in particular, the sub group which pioneered the statistical analysis of Northern Ireland’s economic performance in the Working Together for a Stronger Economy document and established the annual monitoring of performance.
He is also a member of the Bank of England Advisory Committee for Northern Ireland, the Euro Preparations for Northern Ireland, and is a board member of the Management and Leadership Network and a member of the Northern Ireland Entrepreneurs Forum. He also chairs two venture capital companies - Enterprise Equity Northern Ireland Ltd and Enterprise Equity Ireland Ltd.
Denis is an experienced broadcaster and conference presenter on subjects including economics, urban regeneration, the construction industry, entrepreneurship, management and leadership training and peace building.
